The Hamburg Theatre Association

The Hamburg Theatre Association (German: Hamburger Theater e.V.) is committed to promoting and supporting Hamburg's theatre scene. The Hamburg Theatre Association has around forty members - large and small stages, public and private theatres - and pursues its objectives by building successful event formats and network platforms.

The association's objective is fulfilled in particular through the operation of the platform theater-hamburg.org. The joint marketing and networking of Hamburg as a theatrical centre and the establishment of this platform as the citywide platform for all theatre-related issues in Hamburg are declared aims of this website.

Our Projects

Hamburg Theatre Night, held annually since 2004, is an association-organised, night-long event during which association members put their tremendous diversity on display. Presentations of excerpts from current theatrical productions and one-time-only special events afford Hamburg Theatre Night visitors an opportunity to experience this diversity first-hand.

The Hamburg Theatre Association also awards the Hamburg Theatre Prize, the city of Hamburg's most important drama prize. Dedicated to Professor Rolf Mares, who was a theatremaker and politician active in cultural affairs, the prize promotes and rewards - and raises public awareness of - extraordinary achievements on Hamburg's stages.

In addition, a theatre reception held during the annual Berlin Theatertreffen festival is an opportunity for the association to present itself as a strong, open organisation with a varied range of projects; to showcase Hamburg's one-of-a-kind theatre scene; and to help promote networking throughout the industry.
